Sharing ideas and insights across hemispheres, via the Morison KSi network.
Shani Ford has been an integral part of the Hill Rogers team since 2007. Today she is Director of Business Solutions – a role that recently saw her spend invaluable time with one of the UK’s leading accounting firms, Kingston Smith (KS). Her visit was part of a professional information exchange initiative co-ordinated directly through the Morison KSi network. As Shani explained the opportunity was a significant one, both for herself and the two firms, with the benefits likely to be seen in Australia and the UK for years to come.
“Professionally, it was a wonderful opportunity for my own career of course. But one of the key reasons for the visit was to build our relationship with Kingston Smith, who are founding members of the Morison KSi network,” Shani said on her return to Sydney. “I was very keen to understand how KS is confronting the challenges of today’s changing business landscape, with an eye to applying some of those learnings to our own business and clients.”
While in the UK, Shani spent the bulk of her time in the KS London city office near Barbican, working closely with the Corporate Finance team. She was also able to meet with the firm’s Partners, Senior Managers (Human Resources, Sales and Business & Development) as well as key members of the operational support team.
“The partners were very generous with their time and openly shared their considerable knowledge and insights,” Shani explained, adding the two firms are looking to work collaboratively across mutual clients with a particular focus on the Media sector, given KS’s extensive Media expertise in its West End offices.
Looking to the future, Shani sees her recent visit as the beginning of a deepening relationship between the two businesses. “There’s potential for a huge mutual benefit going forward – both on the exchanging of ideas and also people. In fact, the next exchange is about to happen. One of our rising stars in Sydney will be taking up a six-month London secondment starting in November.”
It isn’t all one-way traffic, mind you. Shani is quick to point out the relationship is already sharing talent and ideas in both directions. “We’re currently hosting a KS member in our Audit Team here in Sydney. It’s been a fantastic addition, they’ve made a great impact during our busiest season.”
Shani also says exciting plans are afoot to further expand Hill Rogers’ relationship across the wider Morison KSi association to create ongoing exchange opportunities in Europe, North America and Asia. “We’re in discussions with other firms for future secondments right now,” she says. “Watch this space.”
