December is well and truly upon us, which means 2017 will soon be consigned to the history books as we begin 2018 in earnest. It’s a natural time to pause and reflect on the year that’s been for Hill Rogers and also look forward to the new year and the many opportunities it presents.

2017 – the year that’s been.

In today’s digitally disrupted, politically tumultuous, fiscally challenging world, steering a business is rarely a straight forward process. For this reason I’m delighted to report 2017 has been a year of strong growth and performance for Hill Rogers – capped with the firm being named in the Top 50 accounting firms for 2017 by the Australian Financial Review and Chartered Accountants ANZ. It’s a prestigious honour that places us in highly esteemed company thanks to our  continued growth and evolution. Of course, there have been many other outstanding achievements in 2017. These involve both our clients and our team members. Here are just some of the highlights.

Launch of our new website.

As most business owners will attest, the launch of a new website can be a deceptively large undertaking. On the back of considerable stakeholder engagement and best-practice research, the all-new Hill Rogers site went live earlier in the year. The ambition was to create a new site that was highly user-friendly but also rich in practical business insights – and we’ve been thrilled with the response from our clients.

Independent recognition.

Winning awards isn’t why we’re here. But when it happens it is an important yardstick for excellence, providing independent affirmation that we’re on the right path, both as individuals and as a business.

We took home two APAC Business Awards, in two categories:

APAC Businesswoman Awards 2017

  • Tax & Accounting Consultancy of the Year
  • Most Inspirational Female Business Leader (NSW) – Anita Cohen

We’re very proud to say the firm was shortlisted for numerous major industry awards this year:

Accountants Daily Australian Accounting Awards 2017

  • Graduate Program of the Year
  • Rising Star of the Year – Rodrigo Cerqueira
  • Young Accountant of the Year – Eric Truong

SMSF and Accounting Awards 2017

  • Newcomer of the Year – George Wilcox
  • SMSF Adviser of the Year – Garvin Jones

Morison KSi – a growing partnership.

Our membership with the Morison KSi global network of accounting firms continues to deepen each year, delivering strategic benefits for our clients and significant career development opportunities for our staff. In particular, 2017 saw two of our Sydney team members, Steve Kim and Shani Ford, take part in successful professional secondments to Morison KSi partner firms in Atlanta and London respectively. Our Sydney office also benefitted from the 3-month secondments of Misha Kelly, Katlyn Brock and Callum Gitt from partner firms in the US and UK.

All three placements proved hugely beneficial for all parties, paving the way for further professional exchanges in 2018 and beyond.

We look forward to the year ahead and what 2018 will bring to us.

I wish you all a very happy holiday season, and a prosperous 2018.
